A Different Coffee, Toast and Tea Experience at YA KUN KAYA Ortigas

Ya Kun Kaya Ortigas is a familiar place to me because of their famous tea and coffee tarik or pulled coffee. My friends have been gushing over these beverages and I told myself that I should really try it one of these days.

Yesterday, I got the chance to finally try almost everything on their menu. Thanks to Richard Benson K. Co, the owner of Ya Kun Kaya Ortigas for the invite. The whole experience was very new to me as I haven’t tried any food on their menu yet, until yesterday. I noticed how homey YKK Ortigas was, the owner, Richard was there to entertain the needs of the customers. He was so hands-on! And unlike the usual Western coffee shops with intimidating interiors and prices, YKK Ortigas is more laid-back and yes, the food and beverages are better - price and taste-wise.

Ya Kun Kaya is a very familiar name in Singapore as it has been around since 1944. They have not changed the menu or the preparation since then. You will get the same, authentic and delicious Ya Kun Kaya Singapore specialties here in YKK Ortigas!

As a mom, it is important that the places I go to are kid-friendly to ensure that my kid will enjoy the visit as well. I dislike bringing her to coffee shops because she eventually gets bored but guess what? YKK Ortigas has something for the kids while mom are dad are on a meeting!

A collection of Archie comics!!!

Now, the FOOD!
This MILO TOAST is to die for! A classic YKK toast with Milo and drizzled with condensed milk. Seems too sweet? Surprisingly, it is not! Milo Toast served with 1 or 2 soft boiled eggs and hot coffee or tea costs P140.
This is KAYA TOAST with BUTTER. Wondering what KAYA is? It is a jam made from thick coconut milk, eggs and flavored with pandan leaves and sweetened with sugar.
And this is what Yona got, CHOCOLATE BUTTER TOAST. A classic toast with chocolate and butter filling.

And the yummy soft-boiled eggs! These eggs are thoroughly cooked for about 10 minutes in boiling water and eaten with dark soy sauce and pepper.

Ya Kun Kaya Ortigas is open from 7:00am to 11:00pm everyday for you to enjoy these Singaporean delicious breakfast treats any time of the day!

Mang Inasal: The Real Chicken Inasal

After that very horrible experience we’ve had on Bacolod Chicken House Express last week, I promised myself that I’d really try Mang Inasal for comparison and yes, everyone’s right – MANG INASAL is the REAL ONE.

For only P99, you will receive a big cut of either chicken breast or leg, unlimited rice and soup.
Of course the taste and quality of the chicken is great. It’s juicy, not dry and not pre-cooked. You’ll get nothing but the best chicken inasal!
The Unlimited Rice bucket :)
Mr. Unlimited Rice was camera shy haha
And of course to us Pinoys, an inasal is never complete without the sawsawan (dipping sauce)!
Every table has a complete set of condiments, kalamansi (lemon), and sili (chili).

FITFLOP: The right footwear for the kaladkarin me

If you are a commuter like me you can relate to my footwear woes.

I dislike wearing Havaianas unless my attire is too casual, though I really, really, really love Havaianas! There are just some events that I find too inappropriate for it.

I can not wear shoes as I have onychocryptosis or ingrown toenails in layman’s term. Heck, it is getting worse that I am already considering surgery! But according to my research, there is a possibility that I will spend at least 70K on each nail. I have two toes so its P140K. NO WAY.

I tried wearing Happy Feet sandals but they’re just ugh…too heavy and slippery!

So the perfect footwear for me is a pair of FITFLOPS (unless of course there are new brands that I am not aware of.)

ROCKSTAR WALKSTAR

The hottest so far is PIETRA (available in Black, Pewter and Bronze):

Here are the benefits of FITFLOP:

Pizza Hut Satisfied My Week-long Pasta and Pizza Cravings

I’ve been craving for Pasta, pizza and cupcakes last week for no reason. No, I am not pregnant. It was just pure cravings from someone who stays home all week, simply wondering what’s the latest food craze out there.

Heck, I twitted about it:

To satisfy my cravings, I brought Yona and the hubby with me to Pizza Hut. We have Yellow Cab nearby but their pizza is just too salty for my taste and I know that what I was craving for was PIZZA HUT.

The little girl enjoying her Caribbean Smoothie (P79) A blend of banana, kiwi, and strawberry.

The uncooked pasta kept the little girl occupied while waiting for our orders.

Now for our orders, we got Roast Chicken (P159) Rosemary-garlic chicken roasted to perfection.

and a Supreme in Regular size (P255) Six delightful toppings – beef, pepperoni, pork, bell pepper, mushrooms and onions.

For dessert we got the Dip-licious (P99) A platter of fresh banana, mango and marshmallows served with rich chocolate dip.

It was supposed to be just a ‘light dinner” but we went home with already full tummies.

Now, I’m craving for cupcakes with buttercream filling!

Me Time: DVD Marathon

The other day I was feeling so bad because of my allergic rhinitis and thankfully the following day my DSL connection was off leaving me with no choice but to watch downloaded DVDs. From 12 noon to 8pm I watched the following:

And I Love You So (2009) Bea Alonzo, Sam Milby and Derek Ramsay

The Bucket List (2007) Morgan Freeman, Jack Nicholson

The Proposal (2009) Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds

Nights in Rodanthe (2008) Diane Lane, Richard Gere

I laughed.
I cried.
I smiled.

Do you have some ‘me time’? I guess watching DVDs especially chic-flicks is the most ideal way to relax.

How about you, how do you spend ‘me time’?

Note: somebody asked me where Yona was, oh she’s just there. This is what I love with my pre-schooler, she does her own thing already. She’s too independent :)

So it’s Annabelle Rama vs. Kris Aquino now!

This is Annabelle Rama’s statement on the alleged walk out of Ruffa Gutierrez’s last Sunday on the buzz.
It was said that Ruffa walked out of the show because of Kris Aquino’s “aminin mo ibang level ang saya dito” statement.

To all of us (yes, including me) who didn’t get to watch the segment, here’s a video:

It is known that Ruffa Gutierrez has signed a contract with TV5 recently and will only stay at The Buzz until March 14.

John Lloyd Cruz’s "Ingat Ka" Moments on the Big Screen

John Lloyd Cruz, a multi-awarded actor and box-office king has gone a long way. In every role he portray whether as Popoy in “One More Chance” or as Miggy in “A Very Special Love” and “You Changed My Life” he has consistently shown innate sensitivity.

“With every character I assume, I hope that the character’s heart lives in me,” according to the 26-year old star. This goes to show that even off-screen, John Lloyd Cruz wants nothing but the best and the safest. This is why for 4 straight years now, he has been endorsing the popular headache and fever reliever brand Biogesic. In fact, when its about this brand, what automatically comes to my mind is John Lloyd and Ingat – because of the famous catchphrase ‘Ingat!’ on his Biogesic commercials.

Given the taxing nature of his work and the demands of his career, he prizes the value of good healthy more than ever. That is why he takes Biogesic at the first signs of headache or fever that might get in the way of this performance. According to him “It’s a nice feeling endorsing one of the brands you truly believe in.”

As the number one brand prescribed by doctors for headache and fever, Biogesic can be taken even before meals. And just like John Lloyd who trusts the brand, so does millions of Filipinos.

And so to the millions of Filipinos who look up to him and eagerly wait for his film and TV projects— including his latest on-screen offering “Miss You Like Crazy”–John Lloyd expresses his gratitude and concern by bidding them all a heartfelt “ Thank you and Ingat!”

Here are some photos taken during the premiere night of Miss You Like Crazy:

John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo pose for a photo op before proceeding to the exclusive screening of their latest film “Miss You Like Crazy” at the Biogesic Cinema.

John Lloyd Cruz addresses his fans in the Biogesic Cinema along with  co-star Bea Alonzo, director Cathy Garcia-Molina, and Malaysian actor Gerald Hans Isaac during the premiere showing off his latest romantic flick, “Miss You Like Crazy”.
