Falling for the Boy Next Door type

Posted on Mar 7, 2011 11:30:44 AM

This is so unrelated to my blog but I don’t know, I just feel like blogging about it LOL

I’m 30 but I am still a kid at heart, I’m too old for crushes but I am still fascinated with the boy next door guys in the showbiz industry. I don’t like the the muscle-type guys and I find the ones in mma gear smelly and yucky hahaha :)

I love Piolo Pascual, Sam Milby and many others. And the bottomline? I would easily fall for guys who can sing. Damn.

Don’t Tell My Mother I’m in… Manila!

Posted on Aug 30, 2010 08:14:26 PM

French-American foreign war correspondent Diego Luis Buñuel never wanted his mother to get nervous knowing where his assignment would be so he always told his production crew in their Paris office, “Don’t tell my mother.” Thankfully, his colleagues always heeded his requests.

Since 2001, Diego has covered the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the US intervention in Afghanistan. In 2003, he was embedded with the US Marine Corps in Baghdad and had reported on the Second Congo War, the 2004 tsunami in Indonesia, and Yasser Arafat’s funeral.

But after a few years of covering conflicts, Diego realized that most global news headlines just focused on the worst events in these countries. No one was telling the story about the interesting people and culture in these places. So Diego went on a mission in search of fascinating people and their remarkable stories in some of the most dangerous places on earth and the National Geographic Channel series Don’t Tell My Mother was born.

In 2006, Diego began shooting episodes for the first season of Don’t Tell My Mother where he offered a new look on rarely traveled areas affected by conflicts such as Afghanistan, Colombia, North Korea, Congo, Venezuela, Israel, Iran, Iraq, the Balkans, and Pakistan.

A few months ago, Diego was in the Philippines to shoot an episode for the new series of Don’t Tell My Mother. “We are doing a ten-part series on the biggest cities in the world – Mexico City in San Carlo, Lagos in Nigeria, Cairo, Beirut, Delhi, Tokyo, and Manila,” explained Diego, the host, director, and producer of Don’t Tell my Mother.

Diego said the new series was inspired by a 2008 United Nations report which cited that for the first time in history, more people are living in cities than in the countryside. “I thought it would be really interesting because if our future is going to be in cities then we have to find solutions on how we can live together now.”

And for Diego, one great example of how thousands of people can live together in a densely-packed community is the maximum security compound of the New Bilibid Prisons, which he visited in Muntinlupa City.

“When I was doing my research on New Bilibid Prisons, I realized why was nobody talking about this? I mean I’ve been in many maximum security prisons before like in the US with armed guards and raving maniacs and chain gangs, and suddenly there’s this maximum security prison in the Philippines, which is the largest prison in the country, and there’s 20,000 inmates in there and it seems that none of the usual stigma of prisons happen there. When you go inside the prison, you will see rapists, murderers, and kidnappers all trying to work as one community.”

Diego also noted that at the New Bilibid Prisons, “women are allowed overnight stays and there are playgrounds where children can play. I mean, you will never expect to see a playground in a maximum security prison.”

While in the country, Diego and cameraman Nicholas Boero also visited the Manila North Cemetery and a firebird farm in Tanay, Rizal.

They also went to San Pedro Cutud in San Fernando, Pampanga for the Maleldo 2010 where penitents were nailed to the cross on Good Friday, played sakla, a popular card game, and rode a train trolley in Sta. Mesa.

As a city, Diego found Manila as a real mix. “You’ve got the Asian side, you’ve got the sky scrapers, the modern buildings, and then you’ve got this more rural side that’s filled with poverty. It’s rare to see a city with this kind of balance.”

Diego hopes the new series would show viewers how today’s biggest cities have their own ways of dealing with common problems such as congestion, traffic, poverty, and violence. “This new season of Don’t Tell My Mother offers a real way of discovering the world and how the world changes based on different cultures and ways of exploring things.”

“I think that’s what the National Geographic Channel is all about – showing people on one part of the planet what people are doing on the other side of the planet, and to try to bring this global network of vision and surprise and exciting stories to one another.”

Don’t Tell My Mother I’m in Manila will air on September 7 at 9:30PM, only on the National Geographic Channel.

Go Hollywood every Sunday night @ Star Movies!

Posted on Jul 27, 2010 10:08:42 PM

After a whole week of stress, who doesn’t look forward to the weekend? Those three days are a gold mine for unwinding, relaxation, and quality time with family and friends. But between Friday night hangouts and a quick Saturday weekend getaway, it’s almost impossible to find the time to sit down as one family and unwind.

Sunday nights are usually the last chance for family bonding and relaxation before going down the road of five-day stress. The best way to amp up the energy for another week is with a bowl of popcorn, a comfy couch, and your family tuned in to Star Movies.

As the perfect week-ender, Star Movies presents Sunday Mega Movies: Hollywood Box-Office Hits, which showcases the most anticipated movies to hit TV screens.

For August, Sunday Mega Movies kicks off at 9 p.m. with Night at the Museum: Battle of Smithsonian, a comedy starring Ben Stiller as the former night guard Larry Daley. In this second installment, Larry faces an even bigger adventure with his nocturnal friends on display.

Though he left the low-paying job as night guard to become the inventor of Daley Devices infomercial products, Larry is drawn back to the Museum of Natural History where he once had the most magical adventure during graveyard shift. He finds some of his old friends Jedediah (Owen Wilson), Teddy Roosevelt (Robin Williams), and Octavius (Steve Coogan) ready to be shipped off to the archives section.

Newcomers have also entered the exhibit scene, including the Egyptian ruler Kahmunrah (Hank Azaria) and his three henchmen, who are plotting to take over the museum. Now it’s up to Larry to thwart their plans and save the day (and night) and his museum friends before the stroke of dawn.

If you happen to miss the action of Night at the Museum: Battle of Smithsonian this Sunday, Star Movies: Lunch Pass features a replay at 12:30 p.m. on August 2, Monday. Lunch Pass showcases the freshest blockbuster movies every day in time for your lunch break.

Tuesday Couch Potatoes: And I Love You So…

Posted on Jun 1, 2010 11:58:33 AM

This is my first time to join the Tuesday Couch Potatoes meme so I am giddy-happy!

My husband and I are not couch potatoes because our daughter owns the couch, the DVD player and television so we have no in-house movie dates ever since the little girl learned about the term “ownership”. So our only option is to watch movies on my laptop or his desktop. :P

Moving on, TCP’s theme this week is all about movies with titles that start with Letter A. The first movie that came to my mind was “And I Love You So…”, a beautiful movie featuring my favorite actress Bea Alonzo and my exes Sam Milby and Derek Ramsay (oh okay, I’m still half asleep haha).

Seriously, the movie is about a young widow Lara who lost her husband of 5 months Oliver (played by Derek Ramsay). After 7 months of mourning, she was still not positive that she can go on living without her husband Oliver. That’s when she met Chris (Sam Milby) a rocker who rented her condominium whom she fell in love with.

And I love you so is a movie about young love, great love, pure  love, respect, letting go, moving on, etc. It will move you and will make you think of how you can handle the situation if you were on Lara’s shoes.

I love this movie so much that I always have a copy on my drive so I can watch it over and over again. Watch the full trailer here and see for yourself :)

Cignal Digital TV Satellite Kit: Is it worth it?

Posted on May 13, 2010 05:13:38 AM

I can no longer stand the worthless (forgive my word) shows in local  television. It’s all becoming too commercialized and it’s just right for me to worry because I have a 4-year old in the house who needs BETTER television shows.

My husband and I are considering getting cable television subscription but I don’t know what’s wrong with SKY Cable – they wouldn’t get subscribers in our place. In fact the man from SKY Cable actually suggested that we get Dream Cable – how’s that for loyalty? *roll eyes*

We received several tv deals from agents but we are seriously considering the Cignal Digital TV Satellite Kit for P2,500.

The Cignal Digital TV Satellite Kit already includes the satellite dish, set top box, remote control and cignal card.

This promo is available for postpaid with 24 months lock-in and prepaid with 3 months advance load needed of P390.

Not bad, right?

Lena Horne, Singer and Actress, Dies at 92

Posted on May 10, 2010 06:40:45 PM

Lena Horne, who was the first black performer to be signed to a long-term contract by a major Hollywood studio and who went on to achieve international fame as a singer, died on Sunday night at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York. She was 92 and lived in Manhattan.

Ms. Horne might have become a major movie star (because she was pretty, skilled and a body that no longer needs to buy phentermine, but she was born 50 years too early, and languished at MGM in the 1940s because of the color of her skin, although she was so light-skinned that, when she was a child, other black children had taunted her, accusing her of having a “white daddy.”

She suffered from racial discrimination back then because of her skin color.
