Are diet pills safe for breastfeeding moms?
I’m giving birth via Cesarean section on Sunday, September 4th 2011 and I couldn’t wait to breastfeed my little Lana. They said that moms who breastfeed loses weight easily compared to moms who don’t. They get back in shape effortlessly, they said.
Here are 6 Guidelines for Safe Dieting during Breastfeeding. Found this online and hopefully it could help moms who are planning to breastfeed and lose weight.
- The 2-month Rule - moms should wait until the baby turns two months before starting on any diet. This will give the mom’s body enough time to establish a healthy milk supply. Breastfeeding alone will help you burn 200-500 calories per day without any effort.
- Breastfeed without restriction – frequent and prolonged breastfeeding and increases maternal weight loss.
- Eat at least 1500-1800 calories per day – below this will put your supply at risk.
- Lose weight but not more than 1.5 pounds per week.
- Gradually decrease the calories. – Sudden drop in calories will reduce your milk supply.
- Avoid quick-fix solutions. – Here’s the bomb: Liquid diets, low-carb diets, fad diets, weight loss medication, or any other intake of diet pills are definitely not recommended during breastfeeding.
That’s it
